In an effort to help break the cycle of generational poverty and inequality, 3 to PhD aims to create safer, healthier and more educated communities by reducing health disparities and increasing educational attainment for historically underserved and vulnerable populations.
Concordia University received a grant of $59,064 from Kaiser Permanente to promote dental health as part of the 3toPhD® initiative, a collaboration between Concordia University, Portland Public Schools’ Faubion School, Trillium Family Services, basics, and Kaiser Permanente.
Kevin Bacon, a 32-year educator in the Portland area, assumed the role of 3toPhD® Collaboration Director on July 30, 2018. Bacon will work closely with all five 3toPhD core providers – Concordia University, Portland Public Schools’ Faubion School, Kaiser Permanente, Trillium Family Services, and Basics – to restore the school as the heartbeat of the community.
A community-wide celebration marked the opening of Faubion School + Concordia University, a 3toPhD community. The new education model and facility in NE Portland prepares the next generation of educators inside a public pre-K-8 school, taking into account the needs of the whole child – from prenatal care through “pursuing one’s highest dreams.”
