The largest lake in Italy, Lake Garda is a vacation destination with nearly-perfect views. The balmy climate – thanks to the lake acting as a giant solar panel and a ring of mountains that stores the heat – has long made the region a holiday destination for Ancient Roman writers, European royalty, and later, wealthy families. Today, a few historic mansions that once housed flamboyant balls are repurposed into designer resorts while old inns get glossy makeovers. The best hotels on Lake Garda offer a bit of luxury for everyone, from family-friendly suites to romantic villas for honeymooners.

A beautiful hotel set right on the edge of Lake Garda, overlooking a small cobbled beach and a jetty with ferries going out to the main port of Lake Garda. The rooms were a great size, with a huge bedroom and a separate sitting room that opened up onto a small balcony overlooking the water. There was a lot of space in the rooms, and the beds were very comfortable.
