With a strong line-up of launch titles and some excellent PS5 exclusives arriving since then, Sony’s console boasts an incredible library. With a wealth of new features, there’s always something new to discover.
Take Astro’s Playroom for example, a free title that showcases some of the console’s most interesting technical highlights like haptic feedback and adaptive triggers technology. It’s also a genuinely entertaining game.
Astro’s Playroom
When it comes to new video game consoles, they often come with a comically small list of exclusive games. But one that has been overlooked by most people is Astro’s Playroom, the adorable free-to-play launch-day playstation 5 games
This platformer was designed to showcase the DualSense controller’s features, such as haptic rumble and adaptive triggers. It is a charming, colorful jaunt through a virtual world inside the PS5 that features four different areas (GPU Jungle, Cooling Springs, SSD Speedway, and Memory Meadow) based on core components of the console. Each area is also packed with PlayStation gaming Easter eggs and references.
Gran Turismo 7
Gran Turismo is one of those rare games that actually benefits from being on PlayStation 5. It’s not just a graphical showcase but a genuine next-gen game experience.
Feel the road with immersive haptic feedback and listen to your car’s engines with unrivalled sound clarity. Explore a huge library of cars in a variety of settings or go head-to-head with other players in competitive races.
Polyphony Digital has a reputation for using the series to showcase PlayStation’s graphical power, and this game is no exception. Every vehicle is fettled in obsessive detail, down to the shape of the dashboard logo and onboard systems.
Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales
Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is a stunningly beautiful game that showcases the power of playstation 5. It features HDR and improved shadows, with ray tracing being optional. This allows players to enjoy the game at a higher frame rate.
The game takes place in New York and pits Miles as Parker’s understudy against a sinister clean energy company called Roxxon and violent protesters. Miles has his own unique powers that nicely build off of Peter’s, including the ability to turn invisible and channel bioelectricity.
The game also boasts immersive haptic feedback, which lets players feel individual keys tapping on a keyboard and the thwips of webbing plastering someone to a wall.
Returnal
The sci-fi roguelike that debuted on PlayStation 5 in 2021 is coming to PC later this month. It will feature a robust narrative that intertwines with loop-style gameplay that returns players to the same spot on the alien planet every time they die.
The PC version of Returnal will have a wide range of features, including HDR support, upscaling via DLSS and Nvidia G-SYNC, support for ultrawide monitors, and ray-tracing. It will also include adaptive triggers, haptic feedback, and 3D audio.
Like Astro’s Playroom, Returnal feels like a game that was built for PlayStation 5. It has the best haptic feedback I’ve experienced so far, and it makes great use of the DualSense controller’s adaptive triggers.
God of War: Ragnarok
The sequel to the hit PlayStation 4 reboot of God of War is set to release this week. Santa Monica Studio promises to take advantage of the processing power of the PlayStation 5 and give players a choice of graphics settings that balance performance and fidelity.
Ragnarok is a bold sequel that reigns in Kratos’ primal instincts to focus on his bond with Atreus, his young son. Its characterization-based storytelling is a strong complement to its stunning visuals.
Players can choose from a number of accessibility presets on first boot to optimize their experience. The options include options to reduce ambient camera sway, cinematic smoothing, and motion blur.
FIFA 23
FIFA 23 offers eyebrow-raising graphics, new game modes and a smorgasbord of features that will elevate your football gaming experience to new levels. For instance, the advanced HyperMotion gameplay technology captures twice as much real-world match data and delivers 6000 true-to-life soccer animations to ensure players look and move like their real-life counterparts.
EA Sports has also improved dribbling and shooting animations, new shot trajectories, redesigned set pieces and more. Also, players can choose between skill-based power shots and a more refined approach to passing.
Another big feature is cross-play. This means PlayStation 4, Xbox Series XlS, Stadia and PC gamers can play with each other in FIFA 23.
