The Voice Arts(r) Awards
The Voice Arts Awards are presented each year by AudioFile magazine to recognize the work of voice actors who have made significant contributions to the field of audio description. The winners are announced each June, which is Audiobook Month, and interviewed for the magazine’s Behind the Mic podcast.
In 2022, the award was renamed the True Voice Award. It is administered by Washington National Opera and the Cafritz Young Artists Program, and aims to help train transgender and non-binary opera singers and raise their visibility in the industry. The founders of the show, Kimberly Reed, Laura Kaminsky and Mark Campbell, have also created the As One Foundation to support their efforts.
Behind-the-scenes production staff for The Voice have received many awards and nominations, including six ASCAP Film and Television Music Awards, four ADG Excellence in Production Design awards, three GLAAD Media awards and two Make-Up Artists & Hair Stylists Guild Awards. The coaches have also garnered multiple awards and nominations, with Christina Aguilera winning an ALMA award and Adam Levine receiving a Teen Choice Award.
In addition, the show has earned several Emmy nominations and won a Peabody award. The judges of the televised competition include a mix of professional and celebrity musicians, producers and executives. They are chosen for their diverse backgrounds, varying experience and knowledge of the industry.
The Voiceover Career Expo
The expo is one of the focus activities of SOVAS and is designed to maximize career gains for both newcomers and seasoned voice actors alike. This is done by providing a unique opportunity to network directly with the buyers and producers of the work that requires voice acting.
The exposition is a place where you can meet with casting directors, talent agents and managers. These people are the key to getting voice acting gigs. They can refer you to tons of production companies and help you build a strong portfolio of credits. This way, you can start earning some money right away.
You can also attend workshops to learn how to become a successful voice actor. These sessions are led by seasoned pros, who can teach you everything from delivering a powerful monologue to working in character. They can also help you develop your ear for sound design and timing. In addition, they can teach you how to avoid common mistakes that many voice actors make.
Another great way to network is at voiceover industry events, which happen all over the country. Some of these include VO Atlanta, Voxy Summit and OneVoice USA. Some of these conferences are focused on the business side of voice over, while others are dedicated to specific genres like commercial voice overs or podcasting.
The Voiceover Expo
The VO Expo, or Voiceover Career Conference, features panel discussions and trending presentations from top agents, directors, producers, and influencers. It also offers high-impact networking, speed dating, auditions for real-world work, and training sessions. You can even attend sessions from your home, or wherever you are.
Whether you’re a newbie or a seasoned pro, this is an event to attend. Its goal is to empower voice actors to take their careers to the next level and it’s a great place to connect with other talent and industry professionals.
It is important to stay hydrated, eat well, and get lots of sleep while attending the conference. It can be quite exhausting, especially if you’re there for four days or more. It’s a good idea to plan ahead and bring your own snacks and drinks to keep you going throughout the day. It’s also a good idea to take a few moments to relax and clear your mind.
Audio Description is a huge market that offers incredible opportunities for voiceover artists. It encompasses all sorts of genres, from animation to dubbing, museum and cultural site descriptions, and even a variety of podcasts. Debbie has a unique perspective on this type of narration, and she loves sharing her expertise with others in the industry.
The Voiceover Conference
Whether you’re new to voice acting or an experienced pro, a Voiceover Conference can help you make connections and learn more about the industry. Conferences offer networking, classes, workshops, and panel discussions with industry experts. In addition, they often provide opportunities for voice actors to showcase their work.
A VO Conference is a great way to connect with other voice talents, as well as potential clients and mentors. It’s also an opportunity to take improv classes and improve your acting skills. Many conferences are held in major cities, so you can network with people from all over the country. You can even challenge yourself by attending a conference in a city that you’ve never been to before.
The VO Atlanta Conference is the biggest annual VoiceOver events for talent, agents, producers, directors, and resource providers in the industry. It has over 200 hours of scheduled activities, and features panels and seminars on topics such as career growth, voicing technique, and industry knowledge. It also offers breakouts and X-sessions, which are smaller sessions that allow attendees to directly connect with speakers for learning and engagement.
Many conference presenters are not interested in giving away their best information for free. This is because they need to sell their products or services in order to pay for the conference and their living expenses. As such, they often give attendees some helpful tips but will not share their most valuable secrets.
